It's Monday -- What Are You Reading?



It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? is hosted by Sheila at One Persons Journey Through a World of Books. It's is a weekly event to celebrate what we are reading for the week as well as books completed the previous week.

Nothing like a little snow (or a lot for where I live) to help put you in the reading mood.  Schools are canceled, libraries are closed, I will be hunkered down for the day trying to gain ground on the stack of books that continue to build on my shelves.

The big news this week -- I bought this:

 nook

I chose this over the other e-products because I am already a devoted Barnes and Noble customer and their e-reader is compatible to my library's downloadable library, where the Kindle is not.  Also, my father-in-law got me a gift card to buy one...so it was a no brainer.  I've spent the week trying to download as many FREE books as possible from Project Gutenberg -- I think I've got every classic title in literature now available on my handy NOOK™.

Now, to this week's reads:

FINISHED THIS WEEK:

By Fire, By Water by Mitchell J. Kaplan (not yet reviewed)

Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford (3 out of 5 stars -- did not like it as much as the book-bloggersphere).

The Willoughbys by Lois Lowry (this was our mother/daughter book club selection for January -- it was delightful, charming, quirky and witty -- can't wait to discuss it with our girls).

CURRENTLY READING:

Early Candlelight by Maud Hart Lovelace

Synopsis from B&N:

This historical novel set at Old Fort Snelling in the 1830s is a rich and romantic re-creation of the early settlement period in Minnesota's history. Maud Hart Lovelace's careful research into the documents of the Minnesota Historical Society, combined with her knowledge of the actual setting, enabled her to write a story that conveys a sense of time and place both accurate and compelling for young adults as well as general readers.

I adored the Betsy Tacy series that we read for our mother/daugher book club...I'm hoping her adult works are as endearing as her juvenile contributions.

The Rosewood Casket by Sharyn McCrumb (this is for a mail-book club I belong too -- I've never read anything by this author).

    I'm glad to see how much you are liking your Nook. I've been looking into e-readers and I'm actually an Amazon fan, but don't like the limitations that the Kindle seems to offer with other e books, so I've been looking more seriously into the Nook.

    Hope you have a great reading week. It looks like you have some great books coming up!!

    All sorts of fun news to report this week - good for you! We have a two hour delay tomorrow so will have to choose between sleeping in or reading a bit...both godd.

    I have a Nook to but have yet to have the time to really sink into what it can do... I also need to search out the free books.... :)

    Yes, of course it's ok to read only one Lucy Maud Montgomery book for the challenge! It's set up so that you can read as much or as little as you like this month.

    I have both Like Fire Like Water to read-I just started it-have you read WaterMark-I also have Hotel on the Corner of Bitter Sweet.

    I'm thinking more and more about getting an eReader...possibly a Nook from what I've read on blogs. Hmmm.

    I really liked Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet. I thought it was a very sweet love story.

    Early Candlelight looks good. I'll put it on my wish list.

    have yet to embrace the e-reader even though I have an iPad and could be downloading on it, I just can't seem to give up my hard copies Glad you are liking your Nook though. Have a great week!

    I really need to read more L.M. Montgomery - glad to hear you're enjoying Emily. It's been snowing like crazy here too. Fortunately, I didn't have to work those days so I've been reading and writing like crazy. So much fun! Hope you have a great week! :)

    Congratulations on taking the eReader plunge! I myself am still afraid to swim in that pool, but I'm getting there...slowly but surely. I would probably have an eReader by now if I could decide which one to get. I'm leaning toward the Nook!

    I love Maude Hart Lovelace and L.M. Montgomery! Such great writers. Enjoy your Nook too---I know I am enjoying my Kindle and the whole new world of e-books. My boys all have ipods and smart phones and I have nothing! So the Kindle is definitely my new electronic toy.

    WTG on the Nook! Woot! I really liked By Fire, By Water- it even made me go to Google and start looking up more on the subject and the characters!
