It's Monday -- What Are You Reading?

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? is hosted by Sheila at One Person's Journey Through a World of Books. It's is a weekly event to celebrate what we are reading for the week as well as books completed the previous week.

One thing I learned this week -- PTA responsibilities and reading do not co-exist. I wasn't able to read a single page until Sunday afternoon. I tried earlier this week, but once I was done with school registration and I climbed into bed at night, my eyelids were too heavy to open the cover of a book.

But, with my last minute cramming...I was able to FINISH:

Every Last One by Anna Quindlen (not yet reviewed)
Every Last One
Holy smokes -- an amazing novel, but I am exhausted and despondent.   Not to mention, extremely protective of my children.

ON THE HOLD SHELF:
I haven't worked at the library in over a week -- so all my HOLDS are still there.  I have Red Hook Road waiting for me, but from what I know of the plot, I think I will need to push this back until I have some time to process the above.

This is the last full week before school starts, so my children and I will be camped at the pool.  I definitely need a "beach read" -- not sure if this qualifies, but I'm pulling it from my stack:

TO READ:

One Day by David Nicholls
One Day

Synopsis from B&N
It's 1988 and Dexter Mayhew and Emma Morley have only just met. They both know that the next day, after college graduation, they must go their separate ways. But after only one day together, they cannot stop thinking about one another. As the years go by, Dex and Em begin to lead separate lives lives very different from the people they once dreamed they'd become. And yet, unable to let go of that special something that grabbed onto them that first night, an extraordinary relationship develops between the two. Over twenty years, snapshots of that relationship are revealed on the same day July 15th of each year. Dex and Em face squabbles and fights, hopes and missed opportunities, laughter and tears. And as the true meaning of this one crucial day is revealed, they must come to grips with the nature of love and life itself.

I hope to get more read this week, but I better take one book at a time...

What are you reading this week?

  1. Every Last One is some kind of roller coaster isn't it? I felt almost resentful of the kick in the gut it gave me.

    Here is my Monday!

  6. Oh, Every Last One really walloped me, with its intensity and unexpected events. I just didn't see some of that coming! Probably need something lighter before reading Red Hook Road.

    Enjoy your week.

  7. You've gotten me curious about Anna Quindlen's book. Is it fiction? I would also love to read One Day and the other one too. Really good books.

  8. Oh, Anna Quindlan is always so intense!

  9. I haven't read anything by Quindlen but she's supposed to be very good. Sounds like you liked the book, but it was a bit emotional?

I'm reading After You by Julie Buxbaum where a woman is looking after her recently murdered friend's daughter and husband. Quite a sad story really, but I'm enjoying it.

  10. Thanks for stopping by! I watched and enjoyed the Little Dorrit mini-series a while ago, so I thought I'd pick up the book and give it a try. It's thick but so far so good!

  11. I keep hearing Quindlen is good, though I've not read anything by her yet. Sounds like she may scare the momma in me!

  12. It's amazing that you find time to read! I want to I so want to. When my children were younger, it was so easy. I have a number of books I've wanted to get to, and they're just waiting...

Saturday night was a blast, I'm looking forward to many more!

  13. Hmm...seeing as I have two kids I worry about enough as it is, I think I will avoid Every Last One! One Day does sound good though. Have a good reading week!

  15. I didn't get any reading done this week, either - and I didn't have PTA duties as an excuse.

I've looked at Every Last One, but it sounds a little more intense than I think I could take right now. It's had a lot of great reviews, though.

  16. Every Last One looks good! I would like to read that one. I know what you mean about being tired. The last two nights I held a book but I was exhausted and maybe read a total of 6 pages.

  17. My reading time has started dwidling as well (and that's without PTA!). I've seen lots of reviews of Anna Quindlen's work, but the intensity may be a bit much for me. I look forward to your review!

  18. One Day sounds very good - I've seen it go out a lot at the library. I definitely have to break up books that have such heavy topics with lighthearted ones. It's too much to read them back to back even if they are amazing. Have a great week!
