The Omnivore's Dilemma by Michael PollanDID NOT FINISH
Very rarely do I not finish a book. But life came crashing down on me this week and unfortunately, The Omnivore's Dilemma, was the collateral damage.
If I could rate the 50 pages I did read I would give it 4 out of 5 stars. Michael Pollan weaves an extraordinary story of the industrialization of our food. Considering the subject matter could get bogged down in minutia, he has a very easy writing style that is a pleasure to read. And I'm convinced he needs to write romance novels after reading his section on "corn sex!" Totally erotic, in a plant kind of way! I hope to revisit this book in the future. But I have to move on to other things.

Ah crud, you didn't get to finish it? It's just so good. And if you think his description of corn sex is good, just imagine what his writing can do for a McDonald's happy meal. I guarantee you will not eat at McDonald's ever again after reading his book. It's more damaging that "Supersize Me" ever could be. So I get it when life comes crashing down, but do try to get back to it. You won't be disappointed.
By the way, have you read 3 Cups of Tea? It's a powerful story, but the writing style is DRIVING ME BATTY. If I have to read another eighty word sentence about vertiginous slopes (not sure that's even a word--is it?) I'm gonna throw the book across the room.
This book amazed me. I never would've picked it up (thank you book club!) but I'm so glad I did. I still think about it sometimes :)
